Maria Felix Hernandez de Carmona was born in Guanajuato, Mexico on April 28, 1960.  Maria immigrated to the United States with her four children and husband Fransisco in 1999.  Maria’s children are Julie Baca of Strathmore, David Carmona of Porterville, Laura Ochoa of Lindsay, and Fransisco (Paco) Carmona of Porterville.  Maria has 16 grandchildren.

Maria enjoyed a life in the Porterville area where she worked in the fields, watched over children and raised her family.

Maria had a true love of birds, specifically canaries.  She had two of her own.  She enjoyed feeding them and talking to them as though they were her babies.  Her children shared that her canaries loved her and would sing beautifully to her as though they had a strong connection.  They would stand on her hand peacefully just enjoying her company when they wouldn’t let anyone else touch them.

A statement from Maria’s daughter Julie:

There are people in this world that impact people in a wonderful way.   Maria was one of those people.  Her essence captivated people's souls.  Maria was a genuine, humble, friendly and loving woman.  Anyone that met her can attest to her sincere heart and love for others.  To some, she was like a second mother.  To others, she was like a sister.  To me, she was and will always be a blessing that God privileged me and my family with.   When she left us on December 15, 2017, a great emptiness invaded our hearts, but we came to realize that her legacy was much more immense.  Her strength, braveness, hope, faith and love describe her essence.  She was such a fighter, never giving up and always having a positive attitude.  She is still with us in our hearts each and every day and her memory will persevere forever.
